Preparation Steps
- Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the elbow macaroni until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.
- Sprinkle the flour over the melted butter and whisk continuously for about 1 minute.
- Slowly pour in the milk, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the shredded sharp cheddar and mozzarella cheese until melted and smooth.
- Add the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Gently fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes.
