Cheese Sauce
  • 4 tbsp Unsalted butter can substitute with salted
  • 1/4 cup All-purpose flour can substitute with gluten-free blend
  • 2 cups Milk whole or low-fat
  • 2 cups Shredded sharp cheddar cheese use high-quality cheese
  • 1 cup Shredded mozzarella cheese for stretchy goodness
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder or use fresh garlic in lesser amount
  • 1 tsp Onion powder for deeper flavor
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Black pepper

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the elbow macaroni until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the melted butter and whisk continuously for about 1 minute.
  4. Slowly pour in the milk, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in the shredded sharp cheddar and mozzarella cheese until melted and smooth.
  6. Add the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  7. Gently fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce.
  8. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes.
