How to Make Braised Cabbage
  1. Prepare your ingredients: Start by removing the outer leaves from the cabbage. Cut it into quarters, remove the core, and chop into bite-sized pieces. Finely chop the onion and garlic; shred or slice the carrots.
  2. Sauté aromatics: In a large skillet, heat a splash of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions, cooking until they're translucent (about 5 minutes). Follow with the minced garlic, cooking for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Add cabbage: Stir in the chopped cabbage, cooking just until it begins to wilt (around 3 minutes). This step enhances the cabbage's natural sweetness.
  4. Pour in flavor: Next, add the shredded carrots, vegetable broth, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine all those wonderful flavors.
  5. Simmer: Cover the skillet with a lid, reducing heat to low. Let it simmer for about 30-40 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and full of flavor.
  6. Serve: Taste for seasoning, adjusting as necessary. Then, transfer your delicious Braised Cabbage to plates or bowls, ready to enjoy either as a side dish or a main course!
