Ingredients

For the Potatoes
  • 3 lbs potatoes any type works, but Yukon Gold adds a lovely buttery flavor.
For the Cream Mixture
  • 1 cup heavy cream enhances richness; you can substitute half-and-half for a lighter version.
  • 1 tsp garlic powder adds warmth and depth; fresh minced garlic works great too.
  • 1 tsp salt essential for flavor; adjust according to your taste.
  • ½ tsp black pepper gives a hint of spice; feel free to add cayenne for a kick!
For the Cheesy Layers
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese blend combines sharpness and stretchiness; use your favorite cheese for a unique twist!
  • 4 tbsp butter helps create a luscious texture; consider using olive oil for a lighter option.

Method

How to Make Cheesy Potatoes
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly spray a baking dish with nonstick spray.
  2. Wash and peel the potatoes, then slice them into thin rounds, about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. Whisk together the heavy cream, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a bowl until well combined.
  4. Layer half of the potato slices evenly in the baking dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, and then sprinkle half of the cheese blend on top. Repeat these layers.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  6. Remove the foil and broil for another 5-10 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

Garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or chives for a pop of color. Use a layer of plastic wrap directly on the surface of the cheesy potatoes before sealing the container to minimize moisture loss.
